The Media Authority sees “sufficient grounds” for Minister of Education, Culture and Science Rianne Letschert (D66) to revoke the broadcaster’s accreditation. The regulator writes this in a letter to the minister following the “public outrage” over ‘Hitler glorification’ in an ON! program. Now it is up to the minister.
Minister Letschert (Media) will provide more clarity regarding the fate of Ongehoord Nederland after the weekend, now that media watchdog Commissariaat voor de Media has withdrawn its confidence in the broadcaster. The minister announced this in a statement on Thursday afternoon.
The Dutch Media Authority, the watchdog for the Dutch media sector, no longer has confidence that Ongehoord Nederland is capable of getting its operations in order and sustainably fulfilling its public media mandate. Therefore, the Authority has now sent a letter to Minister Letschert, which it can use to expel ON! from the broadcasting system.
