Measles Case Confirmed in Teton County, Idaho
Health officials say the case is Idaho’s 10th this year and urge residents to check vaccination records after a possible grocery store exposure.
- On Wednesday, Eastern Idaho Public Health announced a vaccinated adult in Teton County contracted measles, the first case recorded in the county this year. The individual had close contact with a known case during their infectious period.
- Officials identified potential public exposure at Broulim's Grocery in Driggs on July 6 between 5:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. Health officials are monitoring individuals known to be exposed and urge residents to monitor for symptoms for 21 days.
- While the MMR vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles after two doses, Health Strategy Manager Jordan McAdam noted approximately 2 to 3 percent of vaccinated people may still contract the virus. High vaccination coverage provides strong individual protection and limits community spread.
- Symptoms typically appear seven to 14 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a distinctive rash. Residents with symptoms should call the epidemiology hotline at 533-3150 before entering any healthcare setting.
- This marks Idaho's 10th measles case this year, highlighting statewide vulnerability. Eastern Idaho Public Health urges residents to verify vaccination status through a primary care provider or the Docket app to maintain community protection.
