Max Verstappen to take on 100 kart drivers in latest non-F1 venture
The live go-kart race will feature 101 karts, with Max Verstappen starting last against athletes, streamers, celebrities and fans.
- Four-Time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will race 100 competitors in a specially designed karting event at Silverstone on September 16, broadcast live on Disney+. Verstappen starts at the back of a 101-driver field.
- Race Director and former karting world champion David Terrien designed the custom circuit, which underwent a 50-kart shakedown trial. Verstappen, who began karting at age four, said: "In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking."
- Competitors including ultrarunner Arda Saatçi and basketball shooting phenomenon Chris "Lethal Shooter" Matthews will participate alongside freestyle mountain biker Matt Jones. Real-time communication between Verstappen and rivals provides viewers an inside look at the race.
- Comedian Mo Gilligan will host the live broadcast, which features game-inspired graphics and cinematic drone footage. The event streams on the ESPN app for United States subscribers alongside the Disney+ global broadcast.
- Verstappen admitted looking forward to "seeing the carnage unfold in front of me," though he acknowledged the difficulty of overtaking 100 drivers. Red Bull simracing driver Sebastian Job noted that even with 50 drivers, completing the challenge in allotted time proved difficult.
