Scherzer Pitches 3 Innings for High-A Vancouver Canadians
Scherzer threw 41 pitches over three innings and allowed two earned runs as he works back from a back injury, with 6,500 in attendance.
On Friday, Max Scherzer made a rehab start for the Vancouver Canadians at Nat Bailey Stadium, pitching three innings in a 5-3 win over the Eugene Emeralds.
Scherzer has been sidelined by a back injury since June 10, and the 41-year-old posted a 10.23 ERA during his six starts with the Toronto Blue Jays this season.
A sold-out crowd of 6,500 watched Scherzer throw 49 pitches, including 33 strikes, while allowing three hits and two earned runs before Landen Maroudis replaced him.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Scherzer will likely need a couple of rehab starts before returning to the major league rotation.
Scherzer is expected to rejoin the Blue Jays in Seattle for their road trip, which begins Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.
