‘Massive’ Search Underway for Missing Hunters in Southern Colorado

Search and rescue teams including air, ground, and drone units continue extensive efforts after two hunters went missing following bad weather and lost communication.

  • On September 13, a large-scale search was launched in southern Colorado for two 25-year-old hunters, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, who were reported missing after failing to return from an elk hunting trip near the trailhead by Rio De Los Pinos.
  • The men failed to check in with loved ones since September 11, and terrible storms with heavy rain, fog, thunder, and lightning complicated the situation and raised deputies’ concerns.
  • Their vehicle was found at the trailhead with camping gear and backpacks inside, indicating they likely expected a short evening hunt; both are described as experienced, fit outdoorsmen who planned the trip carefully.
  • Porter’s fiancée, Bridget Murphy, posted a $10,000 reward on Facebook and urged qualified individuals to help with on-foot searches while asking others to pray for their safe recovery.
  • Search and rescue involve air, ground, dog, drone, and ATV teams along with local volunteers, but as of Tuesday afternoon, no trace of the men has been found and efforts continue.
