- On Saturday , a massive fire swept the multistorey Gul Plaza shopping mall on MA Jinnah Road, Karachi, killing at least three people and injuring others, police and Rescue 1122 said.
- Preliminary probes suggest a short circuit started the fire, which spread rapidly from ground-floor shops storing imported garments and plastic household goods, Garden subdivision police officer Mohsin Raza said.
- Fire brigade officials say they deployed five snorkels, 20 to 25 fire brigade vehicles and at least 18 fire tenders as parts of the building collapsed and heavy smoke hampered rescue efforts.
- Hospital officials confirmed three bodies identified as Faraz, Kashif and Amir, with 18 injured treated at Karachi Civil Hospital, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered all available resources to assist.
- Police said a formal investigation will follow once the blaze is out, with officials citing Karachi's history of deadly fires including the November 2023 mall fire that killed 10 and injured 22.
