Belmont, Massachusetts Middle School Teacher Arrested on Child Pornography Charges
Leon Dyer, 45, faces two counts as state police say the Belmont teacher was arrested by a cyber crime task force.
On Saturday, Massachusetts State Police arrested Leon Dyer, a 45-year-old Belmont Middle School teacher, on two counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. Dyer, who also worked at a camp in Middleboro, faces arraignment Monday in Cambridge District Court.
The Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Crime Scene Services, and the Belmont Police Department conducted the arrest. Officials report the investigation remains active, though no details have been released regarding what prompted the charges.
Belmont Public Schools Superintendent Jill Geiser stated Dyer is banned from school property and his technology accounts are suspended. Geiser added that Dyer was "properly screened and underwent regular reviews" during his background checks.
Addressing community concerns, Geiser stated, "We have no information at this time to suggest that this individual engaged in inappropriate conduct with BPS students, on BPS property, or otherwise in connection with his employment with BPS." The district prioritizes student safety.
Parents seeking additional resources are asked to contact the Middlesex Child Advocacy Center through their website. The district aims to remain transparent and will share information with the community as the legal process continues.
