Martin Lewis furious after fake Nigel Farage Question Time fight story used in scam
Lewis says AI-generated scam ads are using fake celebrity stories and shock headlines to push victims toward fraudulent investment and crypto schemes.
Financial expert Martin Lewis warned that fraudsters are using sophisticated AI-generated deepfakes and fake celebrity news stories to lure victims into dangerous "get rich quick" scams.
Lewis advised that people should be wary of language such as "Authorities don't want you to know this" or "Secret loophole," as these phrases tend to signal fraud.
Among the fake stories circulating online was one outrageous claim that Lewis had a physical fight with Nigel Farage on Question Time, alongside reports falsely claiming he had died.
Lewis campaigned in 2023 to include scam adverts in the Online Safety Act, arguing, "We have to make sure it costs them more to publish scam ads than the profit they make."
Enforcement is moving too slowly, with Lewis warning that major regulations may not arrive until 2027, creating what he called a "decade of wild west flaccid regulation allowing big tech firms to take billions of pounds.
