Martin Freeman Cast as First-Ever Voice of Gromit for New Audiobook
Martin Freeman reads Gromit’s inner thoughts in the first audiobook for the mute claymation dog, with the release set for later this month.
Bafta-Winning actor Martin Freeman will voice the silent canine in the audiobook edition of Gromit's memoir, marking the first time the claymation dog will speak in his 37-year history.
Creator Nick Park faced a creative conundrum when his publisher requested an audiobook for 'Grand: The Autobiography of Gromit,' since the character has famously never uttered a word since debuting in 1989.
Scheduled for release on October 22, the memoir promises 'the tale of what goes on behind eyes,' featuring his inner thoughts, candid insights, and endless witticisms.
Park clarified that Freeman is not performing a Gromit 'voice' as such but reading the dog's inner thoughts; the actor is best known for roles in 'Sherlock' and 'The Hobbit.'
An immersive exhibit titled 'Larger Than Life' opens on October 14 at the Lightroom in King's Cross, London, sharing behind-the-scenes moments projected across four 11-metre walls.
The recording took place earlier this month at Penguin Studios.
