Surrey Businessman Who 'Nibbled' on Flight Attendant's Ear and 'Slapped' Wife Is Jailed

Philip Gould assaulted his wife and crew, endangered a British Airways flight, and received a 14-month sentence after intoxication on a flight from the Bahamas, court heard.

  • Philip Gould, 64, businessman from Woking, Surrey, has been jailed for 14 months after admitting sexual assault and recklessly endangering a British Airways flight from Nassau to London Heathrow on June 25 last year.
  • After drinking vodka and wine on the BA service from Nassau to Heathrow, Gould said the alcohol mix `had sent him over the edge` following a luxury holiday in Grand Cayman.
  • He then approached the cockpit, banging and shouting that he could fly the plane, while physically assaulting his wife, pushing cabin crew, and making explicit propositions to a male flight attendant.
  • Cabin crew positioned themselves between the flight deck and Gould, BA staff alerted the pilot, and he was detained at Heathrow when the Boeing 777-200 touched down.
  • Prosecutors warned `Those who get drunk on aircraft must expect prison sentences`, Judge Hannah Duncan said passengers may be nervous, and Manny Arora, defence lawyer, called Gould `remorseful` with PTSD.
