Marlins LHP Robby Snelling to Undergo Tommy John Surgery
The former first-round pick will miss the rest of the season after one major league start, and the Marlins will reveal his recovery timeline after surgery.
Marlins left-handed pitching prospect Robby Snelling will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday to repair his ulnar collateral ligament, ending his 2026 season after just one major league start.
Discomfort during a bullpen session prior to a scheduled May 12 start against the Minnesota Twins led to an MRI that revealed a ligament sprain, prompting the surgical decision.
Just days before the injury, Snelling made his major league debut on May 8 against the Washington Nationals, allowing three runs on five hits across five innings in a 3-2 loss.
Manager Clayton McCullough called the situation "disappointing for him, us," while the team transferred Snelling to the 60-day injured list on Thursday to clear roster space.
Recovery from Tommy John surgery typically requires about one year, positioning Snelling for a potential return around the 2027 All-Star break, longer than teammates Adam Mazur and Ronny Henriquez who underwent the internal brace procedure.
