Mariners First Baseman Josh Naylor Is Back in the Lineup for Wednesday’s Game Against the Mets
Manager Dan Wilson said Naylor felt much better after the back spasms that forced him out Monday, and the Mariners also expect Cal Raleigh to progress.
On Wednesday, Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor returns to the lineup for the series finale against the New York Mets after missing Tuesday's game due to back spasms.
Naylor experienced back tightness after hitting a game-tying home run in the seventh inning on Monday, with the injury occurring as he returned to the dugout, according to Mariners Manager Dan Wilson.
Wilson opted to give the 28-year-old a day off on Tuesday to "recoup," though he remained available off the bench. The team decided rest would help speed recovery.
Naylor's condition improved overnight; he is "feeling better today for sure," Wilson said. His presence remains vital for a Mariners team that has won a season-best eight straight games.
Catcher Cal Raleigh is also making progress toward a return from an oblique strain. Wilson noted a rehab assignment is likely as the Mariners embark on a 10-game road trip beginning Friday.
