Marc Marquez Explains Unusual Addition to MotoGP Pre-Race Routine
Marquez said the extra warm-up helped him fire up his muscles and lead every lap for a sprint victory.
- Gresini rider Alex Marquez received a double long lap penalty for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi after a lap-one collision with Acosta and di Giannantonio at turn three.
- Braking too late into a left-hander, Marquez hit the rear of Acosta, which forced both riders into the VR46 star di Giannantonio. The collision unfolded on lap one of the race.
- Following the crash, medical staff checked di Giannantonio for injuries and found he avoided serious damage despite a heavy hit to his ribs. Asked about the incident, he offered a terse response: "Ask Alex!"
- Accepting responsibility for the error, Marquez apologized after the race, saying, "A bad day for us." He acknowledged ruining the races of two other competitors and accepted the penalty.
- Honda rider Diogo Moreira secured a podium finish in the Sprint following the chaos, though he cautioned the result was not a "real result" as he prepares for Sunday's main race.
