Manoj Bajpayee’s controversial thriller 'Ghooskhor Pandat' gets a new name, 'Gajab Raat'; trailer finally out
On Thursday, Netflix India unveiled the trailer for 'Gajab Raat', setting an October 23 premiere. Produced by Creator Neeraj Pandey's Friday Storytellers and directed by Ritesh Shah, the thriller stars Actor Manoj Bajpayee as a police officer navigating moral dilemmas.
The film was initially titled 'Ghooskhor Pandat', sparking widespread backlash earlier this year. Critics and organizations alleged the title insulted the Brahmin community, leading to FIRs and petitions in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court.
Following Supreme Court intervention, Pandey filed an affidavit confirming the original title was "unequivocally withdrawn." Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan disposed of the issue, urging YouTubers to cease further controversy.
Bajpayee portrays Ajay Dixit, a police officer caught between personal gain and doing what is right during a single night. The ensemble cast includes Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, and Akshay Oberoi in the thriller.
Pandey stated the film is a fictional cop drama exploring accountability rather than social commentary. Bajpayee noted that "inner struggles matter as much as the events of the night," emphasizing his interest in the character's moral complexity.
The trailer for Manoj Bajpayee's most-awaited film, "Gajaab Raat," was released by Netflix on October 15. This suspense thriller will release on Netflix on October 23.
