Manny Yekutiel Drops Out of San Francisco Supervisor Race Amid Sexual Assault Allegations
The withdrawal followed a Standard investigation and the loss of support from Mayor Daniel Lurie and several supervisors, leaving the frontrunner’s campaign untenable.
On Thursday, District 8 supervisor candidate Manny Yekutiel suspended his campaign after new sexual assault allegations surfaced. The cafe owner, previously the race's frontrunner, faced mounting pressure following reports of misconduct at a 2023 Pride event.
These claims follow a June accusation from political organizer Brad Chapin, who alleged Yekutiel groped him at a 2020 party. Yekutiel denied that 2020 incident, but this week's reports surfaced alongside similar allegations from two additional men.
Mayor Daniel Lurie withdrew his endorsement Thursday, stating survivors "deserve to be heard." Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, Bilal Mahmood, Matt Dorsey, and Danny Sauter also rescinded support, with Mandelman saying Yekutiel has "work to do on himself."
The San Francisco Democratic Party announced it will "reconsider its endorsement" during a special October 11 meeting. Other District 8 candidates issued a joint statement refusing to appear alongside Yekutiel at upcoming forums.
Although Yekutiel ended his campaign, his name will remain on the November ballot. Voters in the Castro, Noe Valley, and Glen Park will ultimately decide the seat as the race dynamics shift.
