Nagaland CM Condemns Killing of Six Nagas in Manipur, Demands Action Against Those Involved
- On Wednesday, the Manipur state government transferred the investigation into the abduction and death of six Naga villagers to the National Investigation Agency , following recovery of their remains in Kangpokpi district.
- The deceased are believed to be among at least 48 civilians taken hostage on May 13 by armed groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts following violent ambushes of church leaders.
- Manipur Police recovered the remains Wednesday afternoon after 24 hours of sustained search operations involving around 450 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force and Assam Rifles, assisted by forensic teams.
- The United Naga Council condemned the killings, demanding the government declare the Kuki National Front-President Group a terrorist organization for its alleged involvement and remove Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
- These developments occur amid long-standing ethnic tensions between Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities, which have displaced more than 59,000 persons since May 2023, alongside recent clashes between Kuki and Naga groups in Ukhrul.
