Manchester United hands Michael Carrick 2-year contract as head coach
Michael Carrick won 11 of 16 matches as interim boss and lifted United into Champions League qualification after Ruben Amorim was sacked.
On Friday, Manchester United confirmed Michael Carrick as permanent manager on a two-year contract running until 2028, with the club stating they are "delighted to announce that Michael Carrick will continue as head coach of the men."
Carrick took interim charge in January following Ruben Amorim's dismissal, delivering Champions League qualification after lifting United from seventh to third in the Premier League.
Since his January appointment, Carrick oversaw 11 wins in 16 matches and collected 36 points—the most of any top-flight club—earning him a Premier League Manager of the Season nomination.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville praised Carrick for stabilizing the club but warned that "permanent manager comes with a different level of pressure" requiring summer recruitment.
Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher believes the appointment is deserved but remains unconvinced Carrick can "bring the big trophies back to Old Trafford," viewing him as a steadying force.
