- The attack followed an alleged assault in November 2023 at their Oldham home, and Ms Akter had been staying in a refuge since January 2024 when Masum tracked her location.
- Masum told court he lost control, wanted to explain his feelings to Ms Akter, and feared someone replacing him as their son's father.
- He expressed that he remained hopeful about saving the marriage but, overwhelmed by despair, contemplated ending his life in front of her if she ultimately failed to understand his feelings.
- Masum has admitted to manslaughter and carrying a knife but rejects the charge of murder in the case involving Ms Akter, which raises complex concerns surrounding domestic abuse and mental health.
