The High Court in Zomba has acquitted Francis Elesson Chakana of a defilement charge, overturning the six-year prison sentence that had been imposed by the Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court. Chakana, who comes from Kalinde Village under Traditional Authority Lamusi in Zomba District, was convicted in October 2025 after the prosecution called four witnesses.
