Investigators said a domestic argument turned deadly and left a 24-year-old woman hospitalized in stable condition after the suspect died by suicide.
On Saturday evening, a 62-year-old man killed his 56-year-old girlfriend at Karmic Sunshine antiques shop in unincorporated Lowell before dying by suicide; Indiana State Police and Lake County Sheriff's Department officers responded shortly after 7 p.m.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. stated the incident began as a domestic argument between the couple, who resided in a trailer behind the store according to preliminary information released Sunday.
A 24-year-old woman was shot in the arm while attempting to escape and transported to a Chicago hospital in stable condition; her husband and child were present but uninjured during the altercation.
Nearby businesses, including DW's Junction country music venue, implemented lockdowns following the shooting; management later thanked local authorities for rapid arrival and customers for remaining calm.
