Man Pleads Guilty to Murder in Carjacking in Central Minnesota
Ameer Musa Matariyeh pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder after a high-speed police chase involving shootings and a carjacking in Kandiyohi County.
- On Friday, Ameer Musa Matariyeh, 26, of Minneapolis, entered a petition to plead guilty in Kandiyohi County District Court to second-degree murder, his lawyer William Walker said.
- Authorities say the chase began when they were notified around 1:53 p.m. on Oct. 22, 2024, involving a stolen white 2021 Chevrolet Malibu tied to a Minneapolis domestic assault where shots were fired.
- A 911 call at 2:02 p.m. reported a man shot at a Lake Lillian residence, officers saw Matariyeh rear-end and shoot into Jerome Skluzacek's pickup on the Highway 71 bypass, and speeds reached an estimated top speed of 130 mph before OnStar disabled the vehicle at 2:25 p.m.
- A sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 24, Matariyeh was ordered held without bail on Friday, and charges of first-degree assault and fleeing a police officer were dismissed.
- The defendant entered a Norgaard plea, court records say he discarded the gun in a ditch, told someone the cops would kill him, and demanded to see his daughter; the plea does not affect sentence length.
