Man killed ex-partner's sister and her three children in 'revenge' house fire, court told
Sharaz Ali, driven by jealousy and substance abuse, faces four murder charges after a fire killed his ex-partner's sister and her three children, prosecutors say.
- Prosecutors say Sharaz Ali set fire to a Westbury Road house in Bradford on Aug. 21, 2024, killing Bryonie Gawith, 29, and her three children.
- Prosecutors told jurors Ali was motivated by jealousy and fuelled by drink and drugs after Antonia Gawith, ex-partner, left him following a seven-year abusive relationship and stayed with Bryonie Gawith.
- Evidence presented in court indicates ring-doorbell footage shows Calum Sunderland carrying a seven-litre petrol can while Ali told him to 'kick the door in' before the explosion.
- Ali and Sunderland are charged with four counts of murder, attempted murder of Antonia and related offences, and both deny the charges while Mohammed Amjid Shabir died in custody last month, the jury was told.
- Prosecutor David Brooke KC told jurors there is 'only one sensible conclusion' that Ali intended to kill at least Antonia Gawith by burning the house, and the trial continues at Doncaster Crown Court.
