GLASGOW CITY, SCOTLAND, JUL 18 – Michael Harvey was sentenced to nine years after causing permanent brain damage to Carol O'Reilly during an assault linked to their brief relationship, court records show.
- On July 18, Michael Harvey was sentenced to nine years imprisonment and given an indefinite non-harassment order.
- On October 1, 2023, Michael Harvey was convicted of attempted murder after CCTV footage showed him repeatedly hitting a woman's head off the ground in Glasgow city centre.
- Her ongoing impairments include memory loss and seizure control with medication, and she has undergone three brain surgeries including a craniectomy.
- Following the assault, the incident was reviewed by the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner, which made and implemented one recommendation, and Police Scotland is separately investigating the officers' actions from that night.
