Man hid woman's body in freezer for three years, jury told
Prosecutors say Gordon killed his friend, then used her bank accounts and messages to conceal the death for nearly three years.
On Wednesday, George Gordon, 65, went on trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of murdering friend Delia McInerney in April 2023 and keeping her dismembered body in a chest freezer for nearly three years.
After learning McInerney planned a 'new life' in Portugal, Gordon purchased a sledgehammer and handsaw, items prosecutors say were 'consistent with those that would later be used, or required, to kill and dismember' her.
For more than 18 months, Gordon impersonated McInerney in messages to friends, while fraudulently obtaining thousands of pounds from her bank accounts and taking out a £10,000 loan in her name.
Gordon's 'web of lies' unraveled in December 2025 when benefits officials flagged inconsistencies; police discovered the remains on January 8, 2026, after he allegedly told officers, "she's in there."
Denying murder, Gordon claims he acted in self-defense after hitting McInerney with a hammer to "end her suffering." The trial before Mr Justice Goose is expected to last up to six weeks.
