Man arrested after hospital staff attacked with weapon

On Tuesday, officers were called to Newton Community Hospital just after 12pm following reports of a weapon attack that assaulted five people, and a 20-year-old man was arrested.
The man had attended to request an appointment and was refused, which preceded the violence; he became increasingly agitated, damaged a hospital counter, then assaulted people inside.
Paramedics treated the injured at Newton Community Hospital, where their injuries are not believed life-threatening, and a police scene at the hospital advises members of the public to avoid the area.
Merseyside Police confirmed the suspect is in custody and urged witnesses to contact them quoting reference number 25001060801 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
At around 12.10pm, Labour councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron said he was alerted by a neighbour about the attack and praised Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service for their swift response.
