Man dies after attack by tiger at UK wildlife park
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, a man died after entering the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster and being attacked by the animal. The park was immediately evacuated and closed.
South Yorkshire Police received reports at 1:35 p.m. that a man had entered the habitat. Multiple witnesses reported seeing an "agitated" male jump into the enclosure, where he was grabbed by one of the tigers.
Emergency crews, including two land ambulances and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, attended the scene. While witnesses reported hearing "five shots" or "gas canister" use, police confirmed the tiger remained contained and uninjured.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed it will remain closed through Sunday while investigations continue. Police appealed for the public to stop sharing "distressing" footage of the incident circulating online.
Opened in 2011, the "Land of the Tigers" attraction features a 300-meter raised walkway designed to keep visitors at a distance from endangered Amur tigers. Wildlife facilities worldwide face recurring challenges preventing unauthorized enclosure access.
The victim died on site despite the efforts of the emergency teams. Authorities confirmed that the animal was unharmed and that there is no risk to the public. The park will be closed for the rest of the weekend.
