Chicago-Area Man Used Racial Slur, Pushed Child and Threw Bicycle in Naperville: Prosecutors
Jeffrey Feigenbaum faces two felony hate crime counts after police say he used a racial slur, pushed the boy and threw his bike.
- On Saturday, Plainfield resident Jeffrey Feigenbaum was charged with two counts of felony hate crime, misdemeanor battery, and disorderly conduct after allegedly pushing a 9-year-old boy and using a racial slur in Naperville.
- The confrontation began after the boy and friends built a fort near West Jefferson Avenue that was allegedly damaged by Feigenbaum's girlfriend's daughter, prompting the child to knock on the suspect's door.
- DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin stated the allegations are 'very disturbing,' adding that 'hate crimes have no place in a civilized society.' Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres condemned the intimidation of the child.
- During a court hearing on Sunday, a judge denied the state's motion to detain Feigenbaum, ordering him to wear a GPS monitor, stay at least 5,000 feet from the victim, and surrender all weapons.
- Feigenbaum is scheduled to return to court on July 13 while remaining compliant with all release conditions, including GPS monitoring and the protective distance requirement from the victim.
