Man, 19, fatally shoots his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend, her brother in Texas, sheriff's office says
Investigators say the suspect confronted the teen outside her home, and her brother was killed while trying to shield her from gunfire.
On July 26, 2026, Angel Javier Rodriguez shot and killed his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend and her 29-year-old brother in Harris County, Texas, after confronting them outside her home in the 200-block of West Canino Road.
Investigators said Rodriguez confronted his ex-girlfriend outside her home, prompting her 29-year-old brother to step between them and shield his sister before the suspect opened fire on both siblings.
Deputies arrested Rodriguez on Will Clayton Parkway shortly after the shooting without incident. Authorities noted the suspect also fired at the victims' mother, who was not injured, while the toddler remained unharmed.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed Rodriguez was charged with capital murder and booked into the Harris County Jail. If convicted, the suspect faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Ritchie stated, "Unfortunately for that child, today that child just lost both their parents." Rodriguez is the father of the victim's young daughter, who was unharmed.
