Mamdani signs EO to undo Eric Adams’s orders since his indictment
New NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani nullified all executive orders by Eric Adams after his Sept. 26, 2024 indictment to ensure a fresh start for the new administration, officials said.
- On Jan. 1, 2026, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order nullifying mayoral executive orders issued on or after Sept. 26, 2024 that remained in effect as of Dec. 31, 2025, taking effect immediately.
- Tied to Eric Adams's Sept. 26, 2024 indictment, the move rescinded post-indictment orders to ensure a 'fresh start' as Mamdani said the date marked a loss of faith in politics.
- Among the actions rescinded were an order barring discrimination against Israel, a ban on the horse carriage industry, and an April order allowing ICE agents on Rikers Island.
- On day one he revived the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants, appointed Cea Weaver, and retained the Mayor's Office to Combat Antisemitism with planned amendments.
- The order explicitly exempts emergency orders under New York State law as of Jan. 1, 2026, and Mamdani plans further restructuring and housing task forces, including a LIFT review due by July 1, 2026.
