On Thursday evening around half past eight, a major forest fire broke out on the Mechelse Heide in As, near Maasmechelen. The fire brigade went en masse to the scene to fight the large fire and had to extinguish it for hours. Around midnight, the situation was under control, and the subsequent extinguishing has now been completed. The damage to the nature reserve will be measured today.
