Major Recovery Operation to Repair 'Significant Damage' to Railway After Wildfire
Network Rail is repairing fire damage that closed part of the Snow Hill Lines, while replacement buses and reduced timetables continue.
A major fire near Stourbridge on Thursday, August 13, forced the closure of part of the Snow Hill Lines between Stourbridge Junction and Hagley, prompting West Midlands Railway to operate reduced services.
The fire broke out near Racecourse Lane and spread across around 500 acres onto railway embankments, damaging signaling cables and fencing. Network Rail teams secured access on Friday to assess the destruction.
West Midlands Railway is running reduced services, with Birmingham to Kidderminster trains terminating at Stourbridge Junction. Replacement buses operate between Stourbridge and Kidderminster, while passengers may use Chiltern Railways tickets.
Denise Wetton, integrated managing director for GBR West Midlands, thanked customers for their patience as repairs continue. Passengers delayed more than 15 minutes may claim compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.
Full service on the line between Stourbridge and Hagley is expected to resume by the morning of Saturday, August 22. Network Rail teams are continuing repairs throughout the week to ensure safe reopening.
