‘Maigret’ Renewed: Details on Dramatic Changes in Season 2
PBS ordered a second season as Benjamin Wainwright returns and the new episodes adapt three Georges Simenon novels.
On Thursday, April 16, PBS announced a second season for detective drama Maigret, with filming currently underway in Budapest. The series returns as a co-production between Playground, Masterpiece, Banijay Entertainment, and Windhover Films.
Benjamin Wainwright returns as Jules Maigret, with Stefanie Martini reprising Madame Louise Maigret. Nathaniel Parker joins as Director of Police Xavier Guichard, Maigret's new boss and mentor.
The upcoming season promises 'dramatic changes' within La Brigade Criminelle. Former Internal Affairs officer George Bonfils, played by Alex Bhat, joins the team and appears determined to 'take him down a peg' regarding Maigret's growing fame.
Showrunner Patrick Harbinson will adapt Georges Simenon novels The Hanged Man of Saint-Pholien, Maigret's Revolver, and The Yellow Dog. Returning detectives Kerrie Hayes, Shaniqua Okwok, and Reda Elazouar continue as 'Les Maigrets.'
Masterpiece Head of Scripted Content Susanne Simpson praised Harbinson for bringing the detective into 'contemporary times with heart, humor and humanity.' The series explores blurred lines between guilt and innocence as Maigret investigates complex crimes.
