Macklemore delivers pro-Palestine message at Wembley
The rapper used the London stop of his Free Palestine Tour to call for solidarity and perform his protest song before a cheering crowd.
On Friday, American rapper Macklemore performed at London's OVO Arena Wembley, saying it was "more uncomfortable for me to stay silent than to say something" about Israel's onslaught of Gaza.
The Free Palestine Tour raises funds for 12 organizations supporting Palestinians, including the Palestinian Youth Movement , as part of Macklemore's ongoing advocacy following his removal from Ed Sheeran's United States stadium tour last month.
Macklemore was dropped from the United States tour after stadium owners cited his remarks and the protest song "Hind's Hall," which drew about 173 million Instagram views when posted.
After the Friday show, Palestinian ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot presented Macklemore with an olive wood craft containing Palestinian soil and olive leaves, symbolizing roots and enduring hope.
While Macklemore frames his activism as "collective liberation," critics emphasize that the Palestinian Youth Movement has faced controversy over past statements regarding the Hamas-led October 7 attacks.
