Lumby murder sentencing moved to 2027
The court granted a defence application after a June 2026 second-degree murder verdict, delaying sentencing for Vitali Stefanski until Jan. 26, 2027.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the defense for Vitali Stefanski applied in Kamloops Court to adjourn his sentencing hearing, which the court granted. The proceeding was originally scheduled for November 12, 2026.
Vitali was found guilty of the second-degree murder of his ex-wife, Tatjana Stefanski, on June 26, 2026, following a month-long trial. The conviction established the legal foundation for the delayed sentencing.
Tatjana Stefanski's body was discovered off Mabel Lake Road, a rural logging road outside of Lumby, on April 14, 2024. The discovery occurred nearly two years before Vitali's conviction.
Sentencing for Vitali is now scheduled for January 26, 2027, as a result of the approved adjournment application. The new date delays final legal resolution by over two months.
