On the twenty-fourth of August 1992, on the first anniversary of Ukraine's independence, the opening ceremony of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy took place in Kyiv. The university resumed its work after a 175-year hiatus. The initiator of the revival of Mohylianka was Viacheslav Bryuhovetsky, who also became the first rector in its recent history.
