On Saturday, kicker Tony Sterner secured a 23-20 Sun Belt Conference victory for Louisiana-Lafayette over Arkansas State by converting a 37-yard field goal as time expired at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.
Louisiana quarterback Lunch Winfield opened scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, while Arkansas State kicker Clune Van Andel made a 25-yard field goal and quarterback Trey Owens connected with Jaylen Bonelli for a 21-yard touchdown pass to lead 10-7 at halftime.
Running back JJ Garner pushed The Ragin' Cajuns ahead 17-13 with a 13-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, but Red Wolves running back Solomon Baggett answered with a 6-yard scoring run to give Arkansas State a 20-17 advantage.
Sterner tied the game at 20 with a 25-yard field goal with 5:38 remaining; following a defensive stop, Winfield orchestrated a final 73-yard drive in 3:54 to position Sterner for the winning kick.
The Red Wolves return to Centennial Bank Stadium on Thursday, October 8, at 6:30 p.m. to face South Alabama, while Louisiana-Lafayette travels to Louisiana Tech on Saturday for their next Sun Belt Conference matchups.
