Stranded Dog Rescued From High-Rise Apartment Ledge
Firefighter Joel Spillane and a drone operator found the dog after two days, and rescuers freed her in about 20 minutes.
- On Monday, Elbie, a two-year-old Jack Russell, was rescued from a 13th-floor ledge at the Meriton Apartments in Dee Why, Sydney, after being trapped for two days.
- Missing since Saturday, Elbie escaped through a balcony gap; neighbor Fernando Westin spotted her using a drone and alerted authorities to the stranded pet.
- Firefighter Joel Spillane rappelled down the building using vertical rescue equipment, maneuvering the pet to safety through an apartment window. "He was a little bit stuck," Spillane said.
- Reunited with owner Jake Dobrin, the dog was fed, showered, and given water before a veterinary check. "I was over the moon," Dobrin said.
- Crowds erupted in cheers as the rescue concluded, marking the end of a frantic search. The Dobrin family has since blocked the apartment gaps to prevent recurrence.
