Lord Mandelson snubs Congress request for Epstein testimony
Lord Mandelson declined US Congress testimony citing an ongoing UK police probe into alleged misconduct linked to Jeffrey Epstein, despite his bail conditions being lifted, police said.
On Feb 27, Lord Mandelson declined a House Oversight Committee request via his lawyer, citing an active Metropolitan Police investigation.
Published documents from the "Epstein files" include emails and photos linking Mandelson to Jeffrey Epstein, including images from Epstein's Paris flat, according to the US Department of Justice.
Metropolitan Police investigators carried out property searches and questioned him, arresting Lord Peter Mandelson last month on suspicion of misconduct before removing bail conditions and returning his passport, Mandelson's lawyers said.
His links to Epstein have intensified pressure on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, as Lord Mandelson resigned from the House of Lords and Labour last month, prompting calls for his resignation.
The committee said it seeks information to identify co-conspirators, but US Congress cannot compel testimony from foreigners abroad, limiting its ability to force Mandelson's appearance.
