Supermoon Livestream: Watch 2025’s Final Full Moon Rise On Thursday

The final supermoon of 2025 will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual, marking the last in a series of three consecutive supermoons this year, NASA said.

  • On Thursday night, the last full moon of 2025, the Cold Moon, will be visible in San Diego, marking the year’s final supermoon.
  • Because the Moon's orbit is elliptical, its distance from Earth varies between about 226,000 and 251,000 miles on a roughly 27-day cycle, NASA says.
  • Look for a slightly larger, brighter full moon aided by the moon illusion; NASA says the Cold Supermoon will be 14% larger and about 30% brighter than average.
  • Skywatchers can view the supermoon with the naked eye, and tides may be slightly higher though the change will be barely noticeable, the National Weather Service says.
  • Ahead of the Dec. 21 solstice, the Cold Moon will trace the highest arc of any full moon in 2025, completing a sequence of 3 consecutive supermoons, with another on Jan. 3, 2026.
