'Frightening': Dog Attack Victim Faces Long Recovery
Police are investigating whether the dogs also played a role in the death of a 48-year-old man found in nearby bushland.
On Friday, real estate agent Ajay Malik, 37, suffered serious injuries after two dogs attacked him while jogging through 7th Brigade Park in Chermside. First responders rushed to assist Malik, who remains hospitalized at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
The dogs, identified as Louis and Ruby, escaped from a tent at a nearby bushland campsite while their owner, Layla Evans, was out. Both animals were captured by Saturday morning and remain in Brisbane City Council custody.
Police are investigating whether the dogs interacted with a 48-year-old man found dead in nearby bushland on Sunday. Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham stated that due to the body's state of decomposition, officials cannot rule out the animals' involvement.
Brisbane City Council confirmed it would issue destruction orders for both dogs, though Evans has 14 days to appeal the decision. A GoFundMe campaign for Malik and his wife has raised more than $4,000 by Tuesday.
The attack has renewed calls to ban breeds like American Staffies, prompting Premier David Crisafulli to suggest the state should review laws regarding dangerous dogs. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner increased council presence at the park amid heightened awareness.
A 37-year-old man in Brisbane, Australia, suffered life-threatening injuries in a dog attack, reigniting debate over whether keeping certain breeds of dog as pets should be banned.
