Long-distance trains continued to face serious punctuality problems in 2024 in Germany, with Deutsche Bahn announcing that it had drawn up an "action plan" to combat delays, Deutsche Bahn wrote on Saturday.
Deutsche Bahn (DB) paid passengers hundreds of millions of euros in compensation in 2024. The delays are mainly the result of overdue maintenance on the 34,000-kilometre rail network.
Last year, more than one in three Deutsche Bahn long-distance trains were late. According to company figures, 37.5 percent of stops were reached with a delay of more than six minutes. This means that Deutsche Bahn was more late than it has been for at least 21 years.
Deutsche Bahn is implementing a restructuring program to ensure that its trains are more punctual, among other things. However, travelers have not yet noticed any of this. Last year, around one in three long-distance trains was delayed. DB was particularly unpunctual in June, much to the frustration of many football fans.
