London Stock Exchange plans to launch round-the-clock trading next year, FT reports
LSE 24 will start with exchange-traded products and run separately from the main market to meet demand for near-continuous trading.
- On Tuesday, The London Stock Exchange announced plans to launch LSE 24, a night-time trading venue in the first half of 2027, operating separately from its main market to provide overnight access.
- LSE chief executive Julia Hoggett said the exchange aims to help investors "to use London given our particular timezone, to gain exposure to not only UK assets but global assets." The move responds to growing retail demand for extended trading hours.
- Operating from 5:00pm to 7:50am London time, the venue includes a 30-minute pause between 6:30pm and 7:00pm for end-of-day processes. Initially, it will list exchange-traded products while the main market maintains standard 8:00am–4:30pm hours.
- The initiative arrives as exchanges grapple with 24/7 crypto markets and rising expectations for continuous access. Nasdaq plans to extend trading to 23 hours in December, while Cboe intends to launch 23x5 trading of U.S. equities on its EDGX Equities Exchange.
- LSE 24 will provide "global investors greater flexibility to respond to market events, access liquidity across time zones and manage risk," the company said. The phased rollout will test market appetite before potential expansion into broader asset classes.
