'Famous' Scottish Osprey returns to nest in time to woo mate away from toy boy rival
The osprey arrived more than two weeks late, easing fears he had died on migration and letting him join breeding season with Dorcha.
- Louis returned to Loch Arkaig Pine Forest on Friday evening, more than two weeks later than expected, allowing him to rejoin his mate Dorcha for the breeding season.
- George Anderson of Woodland Trust Scotland feared Louis had died during migration after the osprey failed to appear at his usual time, arriving over a fortnight later than last year.
- His mate Dorcha arrived April 4 and rebuffed a younger suitor's advances. Anderson noted, "She may well have warmed to that toyboy this weekend if Louis hadn't arrived in the nick of time."
- Dubbed an "avian influencer," Louis gained 400,000 views during Covid lockdowns with his previous mate Aila. Viewers expressed relief, noting the live cameras supported their mental wellbeing.
- This marks Louis's tenth breeding season at Loch Arkaig Pine Forest, managed by Woodland Trust Scotland with support from players of Postcode Lottery since 2017.
