LATHAM — Major General Ray Shields, the adjutant general for the state of New York, announces the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard, in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Guard Serves as Opposing Force at Training Center

JULY 16, 2025 – Two hundred forty-six New York Army National Guard Soldiers will go to Fort Irwin, California, the home of the Army’s National Training Center in the Mojave Desert, starting July 15. The Soldiers will serve with members of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment as the training center’s opposing force, or OPFOR.
