GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN — Randy Johnson discovered his love for Grandfather Mountain when he was in college. He would hike and backpack the trails at Grandfather while attending school, not at App State, but in Richmond, Virginia.

Local author publishes first work

Although Grafton resident Mike Leary has been writing his whole life, he is releasing his first published novella, Smoking Cigarettes, on July 22. He believes that this work can “touch people, especially those who have struggled with depression or addiction.” According to Leary, the idea for this book came about when he was writing a separate novel.
