Jacquet Scores on Liverpool Debut in Friendly Win over Como
The 21-year-old French center-back combined a debut goal with strong passing and defending after months of rehabilitation.
On Sunday, Liverpool concluded their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Como at Anfield, as new signing Jeremy Jacquet marked his club debut with a goal and commanding defensive performance.
The 21-year-old Frenchman finally debuted after his €60 million move from Rennes was finalized in January, having spent months in rehabilitation following a serious shoulder injury.
Jacquet impressed during the first half, completing 27/28 passes and winning 7/10 duels, before tapping home a cross from Cody Gakpo to prompt chants from the Anfield crowd barely 15 minutes into his debut.
Head coach Andoni Iraola paired the newcomer alongside captain Virgil van Dijk to test his go-to defensive partnership, while loan arrival Ronald Araujo replaced Jacquet at the interval.
Having leaked nine goals in five previous friendlies, Liverpool's clean sheet provides a timely defensive boost as the Reds look to carry this stability into the Premier League season beginning next weekend.
