Constitutional amendment would also remove ban on foreign military bases
Parliament initiates constitutional reform to remove a single ban in NATO and to be able to host allied nuclear weapons in the future
The amendment also allows the development of foreign bases in the country; the decision will have to be endorsed in new votes.
The Lithuanian Sejm (Parliament) approved the lifting of the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of the country, as reported by the local media.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov warned last week that any country hosting nuclear weapons directed against Russia will automatically become part of Moscow’s strategic deterrence objectives, referring to Lithuania’s plans.
