B.C. Lions Release Canadian Defensive Back Josh Hagerty Following Suspension
The team said his conduct fell short of organizational standards after a review of the incident that led to a two-game CFL suspension.
On Tuesday, the BC Lions released defensive back Josh Hagerty following a two-week review of his conduct during the two-game CFL suspension.
The CFL suspended Hagerty on Sept. 17 for repeatedly striking Montreal Alouettes running back Liam Talbot in the groin during a Sept. 12 game; Talbot required surgery.
General manager Ryan Rigmaiden met with Hagerty and his representatives during the review, stating, 'His actions were inconsistent with the standards expected of a BC Lion.'
Talbot, 23, was placed on the six-game injury list and is not expected to return this season. Montreal defensive back Don Callis and Lions defensive back Ronald Kent Jr. also received suspensions.
Hagerty joined the CFL in 2021 after playing for the Saskatchewan Huskies, then played for Toronto and Edmonton before signing with the Lions, winning a Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2022.
