Lionel Messi Produces Disney+ Series 'Messi and the Giants'
The animated series follows a 12-year-old boy who must win soccer-like battles and defeat giants to get home, Disney said.
On Friday, fans at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga in Spain saw the first teaser for "Messi and the Giants," an animated sports-fantasy series executive produced by soccer icon Lionel Messi, revealed to over 3,000 attendees.
The series follows 12-year-old Leo, who "becomes trapped in an alternate reality ruled by giants," according to a press release. To return home, he must "compete in high-stakes, soccer-like battles using powerful 'orbs'" and restore the fractured realms of "Iko."
Voiced by Argentinian actor Milo Burgess-Webb, the trailer features the original theme song "Vamos, Vamos, Vamos" by Argentinian artist Luck Ra. Canary Islands-based Atlantis Animation is handling production for the series.
Disney+ will premiere the series globally in summer 2027, with the show also scheduled to air on Disney Channel in the United States. The project follows nearly two years of development since its initial announcement.
Executive producers Lacey Stanton, Bryan Korn, and Sergi Reitg lead the project alongside Messi, representing Sony Pictures Television and Sony Music Vision in bringing the soccer legend's vision to animated storytelling.
