Leah Vera struck out 13 batters and reached base three times for 17th-seeded Linden to help defeat 16th-seeded Plainfield 13-4 in the first round of the Union County Tournament in Plainfield.Linden (9-5) jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and added four more in the second to take control. Linden scored in six of seven innings, including a three-run fourth that extended its advantage.
